Since starting its Offenders’ Learning and Skills Service (London OLASS) contract in London, Novus has had a major impact on the quality of offender learning in the capital.

In February 2015 the organisation strengthened its position as the leading provider of education, training and employability services in custody and the community by winning the contract, which covers 13 prisons.

At the time, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) were set for the organisation to have a positive impact on quality in 2014/15. We are proud to report that Novus exceeded these targets in all areas.

Key indicators of this include a 24% rise in participation, 26% more learner achievements and a better balance of subjects within the curriculum, with 15% more enrolments in English, Maths and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

Barbara McDonough, Chief Operating Officer at Novus, said: “We have enjoyed a successful and productive period since winning the OLASS contract. Our Education teams in the capital have raised standards and put their prisons on an upward curve.
