Milton Keynes College construction academy success!


Milton Keynes College's new Construction Employment Academy has been a huge success for learners based at HMP Hewell Grange, with a 90% employment success rate.


A new Employment Academy, delivered in partnership with Milton Keynes College, RMF Construction Services Limited and HMP Hewell Grange, has realised a 90% success rate in gaining ex-offenders’ employment. MK College learners based at HMP Hewell Grange have completed a qualification in Railway Engineering and then progressed to gain further industry qualifications which will make them highly employable in today’s job market.

Sally Alexander, Executive Director of Offender Learning at Milton Keynes College, said:

“This is a new and exciting innovation, where we have worked with RMF and HMP Hewell Grange to meet employers’ needs and find jobs for our learners. “The high success rate shows that with the right opportunities, jobs are available for ex-offenders. Following the success of the initial pilot course, a further 14 learners are undergoing the programme.”

Dara McCarthy, Manager at RMF Construction Services Ltd said “We are proud to be working with MK College and HMP Hewell Grange to offer training to offenders, not only providing qualifications to increase their employability, but also improving their confidence and providing life-long skills.”
