HMP Swaleside is part of the Isle of Sheppey cluster of prisons. The prison houses 1100 men, who are mainly offenders serving life sentences and who will, in time, progress to other establishments as they move through their sentence.
The education department within the prison is one of the main activity areas for the prison. We work closely in partnership with the prison to offer a curriculum which supports the development of language, literacy and numeracy and life skills in creative ways. We also work alongside other areas in the prison, such as the gym, to provide contextualised skills development for learners.
The provision at Swaleside is currently mainly part-time, to allow learners to work and learn, and also to enable us to offer fair levels of access to all offenders.
We’re looking for teachers and trainers who are open to using a variety of learning, teaching and assessment strategies which will enable us to keep the provision ‘fresh’, particularly for offenders with long sentences and who can work in close partnership with prison colleagues and other partners to provide learning in different ways.
If this sounds like you then pop along and speak to us. You could be the next member of our team, joining us on our journey to providing interesting, inspiring learning for our learners.
