Milton Keynes College are recruiting for exceptional teachers from the West Midlands area to join their innovative, state of the art educational department. The Careers Open Day will allow qualified teachers an opportunity to take a tour of the facilities, speak with the on-site management team, meet some of the learners and find out more about the opportunities available. 

HMP Birmingham’s vison is to offer outstanding education to enable effective and purposeful resettlement for all learners on release, therefore “Using Time, not Doing Time.” Education in prisons is proven to reduce reoffending rates and improve society within each prison. It’s a crucial part of the rehabilitation process, and often leads to employment or provides the means for self-employment.

We currently have a wide range of exciting part and full time teaching opportunities in the following subject areas:

About HMP Birmingham

Birmingham Careers EventBirmingham is a Victorian local Category B &C prison housing adult male prisoners. It serves the Crown and Magistrates’ Courts of Birmingham and Shrewsbury and the Magistrates’ Courts of Lichfield, Sutton Coldfield, Tamworth, Warley, Dudley and Telford.

Milton Keynes College operate on three sites within HMP Birmingham, East Education, West Education, and G Wing Education, offering education to both mainstream and vulnerable prisoners.

The education department is made up of a 6 person management team, overseeing 3 strand areas, Functional Skills, Vocational Training and Personal and Social Development. We offer Functional Skills in both Maths and English, ESOL, IT, Business, Hospitality, Barbering, Sports and Fitness, Employability Skills, Kick Start in Business, Art, Hospitality, Mentoring, Interpersonal Skills, Equality and Diversity, Electrical, Bench Joinery, Plastering, Car Valeting, Waste Management and Industrial Cleaning. We offer courses from Pre Entry right through to Level 2.

Education Programmes are developed in partnership with the prison to offer a responsive and relevant curriculum, which includes work experience and work opportunities within the Establishment.

Milton Keynes College is one of the largest providers of Offender Learning in England.  The College is contracted to work across twenty-eight prisons in the East & West Midlands and the South Central region, 30% of all delivery nationally.

Learning and skills is provided across A – D category, High Security, Young Offenders, the female estate and open prisons in both public sector and private sector prisons. The College is committed to working in partnership with the National Offender Management Service (NOMS) to ensure a clear synergy between all elements of the regime to maximise outcomes and value for money.
